Click Please to hear Please, Please Rain! the daily plea of rural West Australians experiencing ever longer, hotter and drier summers

These climate change induced conditions dramatically increase the risk of late season fire on dry as

a bone land as was evidenced on Anzac Day the 25th of April this year when an allegedly deliberately lit fire burned out thousands of hectares of pristine Walpole forest.

The piece depicts a myriad of tones and textures depicting the sounds of nature, the intensity of the

elements, a panoply of emotions felt along with palpable fear. Opening bird calls initiate a frustratingly

long day filled with a chaotic mixture of sudden emotional changes ranging from fury to despair, resignation and tears as yet another day of relentless sun and rising temperatures is experienced with not a sign of rain forecast for still many more days. The heat and stress is fleetingly interrupted when sudden wafts of cool air bring slightly distorted reminders of cooler less stressful times. As the heat of the day recedes with the sun over the horizon a short mental recap of a trying day occurs as the cool relief of evening is welcomed.

The tuning of E A D G C F in 4ths for all the guitars producing sounds that are harmonically complex and unfamiliar is chosen to be purposefully discomforting for the listener in order that they might empathise with the feelings and experiences of their rural country folk. It is however relatively easy to play with often only a single finger barre or half barre required.
